HP used to create really good cost decisive cartridges. I have to agree beside the first post I have two elder model HP's a deskjet 712, photosmart 1215. However HP stopped making printers that took cost effective lofty volume cartridges about 3 years ago. These days HP will rip you sour every time on ink. Almost all their printers immediately take vivera ink which come within low volume low capacity cartridges that cost far too much for what they are.



I would honestly look at an entry smooth canon printer now. Canon is currently providing relatively low cost high-ranking quality ink (100 year archival guarantee vs HP's 80 years). an 11 ml HP videotape will cost about $30, whereas a 16ml canon will cost $25.





Look it up most HP printers presently take a 5ml #92 tape @ $20 a 5ml #21 cartridge @$18 or a 11ml #94 videotape at around $30. Most canons will nick a 16ml #PG-40 cartirdge at $25

My experience is the 800-900 series, and the photosmart 1100-1200 series. All of them use cartridges #45 for black, and #78 for color. Being larger cartridges they hold a lot of ink, which allows plentifully of printing per tank.



If HP wasn't your printer of choice, a Canon (uses replaceable tanks) would be the next-best cost effectual choice.
When you use the cheapest ink you will find out you will not get the most printable page for the amount you pay for that ink.
